Jackson County initiated development of their county wide community wildfire protection plan in January 2005 to address the high risk for wildfire in Southwest Oregon. The planning team developed six sub-committees to address the Mission, Goals and Objectives and develop specific action items and implementation strategies. The sub-committees included outreach and education, fuels reduction, risk assessment, emergency management, finance, and biomass utilization. The action plan format establishes specific tasks with responsible parties, funding opportunities, a timeline, and a monitoring plan. Resource Innovations participated on the planning team and provided technical assistance to the Fire Plan Executive Committee and throughout the public outreach process.
The Jackson County Integrated Fire Plan (JaCIFP) final draft was adopted by the Board of Commissioners in the summer of 2006.
The interactions between the plan participants and agencies were among the most important outcomes
from the planning process and resulted in collaborative working relationships that will continue during
the long-term implementation of the JaCIFP.
